THE RULES

The Greater Pittsburgh Soap Box Derby race is a local race for the Greater Pittsburgh Area, Pennsylvania. Our race is sanctioned by the All-American Soap Box Derby in Akron Ohio. All participants must follow all AASBD rules during the race, and any rules and specs for car construction. In addition to the AASBD rules and regulations, rules specific to the Greater Pittsburgh SBD local race are explained below. The winners of each division will represent McKeesport in the 2006 All-American race in Akron, Ohio.

  • Child must be 8-17 years of age
  • All car kits & parts must be purchased from the AASBD
  • 1st-time racers must attend car clinic
  • All cars & drivers must attend Pre-inspection
  • All cars & drivers must attend Final-inspection
  • Cars are impounded after Final-inspection until the race
  • Child is responsible for building the car, with some help from an adult. This is all part of the Soap Box Derby Experience. The child needs to know how the car is generally put together and must demonstrate that knowledge if requested.
  • Child's family is responsible for transporting the car to inspections and to the race.
  • Child must provide copy of birth certificate
  • Child must return registration forms
  • Registration fee of $25.00 must be paid
  • Participate in Fund Raisers
